Then, 4-aminoquinoline-diamines (1.0 mmol) was added to thereaction mixture and the stirring was continued for 5 h. The reactionend was proved by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Then, DMF wasevaporated using rotary evaporator and cold water (20 mL) was added,and solid precipitates obtained were filtered and washed with coldwater. The crude product was recrystallized in absolute ethanol.

A mixture of Zn powder (1.73 g, 26.154 mmol), copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate (0.02 g, 0.08 mmol) and 2M aq NaOH (27 mL) were cooled to 0 C. 5-Bro moisoindoline-1,3-dione (5 g, 22 mmol) was added at the same temperature over the period of 30 min The reaction mixture was stirred at 0 C. for 30 min and 3 h at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was neutralized with concentrated HCl. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethanol and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined ethyl acetate layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the crude title compound as a brown solid, which was used in the next step without further purification (1.3 g): mp 258-261 C.; 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta 9.03 (br, 1H), 7.81 (m, 2H), 7.69 (m, 1H), 6.44 (m, 1H), 5.88 (d, J=9.3 Hz, 1H); ESIMS m/z 225.83 ([M-H]-); IR (thin film) 1684, 3246, 606 cm-1.

Example 8 Heck reaction of 4-Bromophthalic imide with 1 ,7-Octadien (Heck condition) 1 g 4-Bromophthalic imide (6.167 mmol), a two-fold excess 1 ,7-Octadien (12.33 mmol) and the catalysator system were solved in 50 ml DMF. The catalysator system consisted of Palladiumacetate (5 mol-% to Imide: 0.31 mmol), 0.92 mmol Triphenylphosphane and 6.17 mmol Triethylamin. The solution has been heated for 24 h at 150 C (Control of reaction progress via thin layer chromatography with CH2CI2: n-Hexane [5:1]). From the resulting dark brown solution the solvent was removed by reduced pressure. The obtained viscous brown raw product was solved with 80 ml CH2CI2 and washed three times (3 x 200 ml) with a saturated H20/NaCI solution. After that the CH2CI2-phase was dried with MgS04 and the solvent was removed by reduced pressure. The viscous brown product (1 ) was dried under constant vacuum. Yield : quant. IR : v 1772, 1717 (s, Imide) cm 1 MS / ESI : 401.14972 m/z (M+H+)

The crystals were then recrystallized from a mixture of dimethylformamide (DMF) and water to give 28 g of 5-carboxyoxindol. m.p.: >300 C.

General procedure: An aqueous solution of metal (Li/Na) carbonate (4.5mmol in 50ml) was added drop wise to a well-stirred solution of NPA (9.1mmol) in ethanol (40ml) at room temperature separately. The pH (6-7) adjusted solution was stirred with heating (60C) for next 4h and then set aside for crystallization. After four weeks, 0.48g (48% yield) for each 1b and 2b of colourless single crystals were obtained.
